Packet loss happens when some data sent across a network never reaches its destination. It can cause lag, frozen video, robotic audio, buffering, and disconnected sessions.
It sends small, uncached HTTP requests to NitroClaw and measures which requests return before the timeout. Browsers cannot send raw ICMP packets, so this is an application-layer approximation rather than an ICMP ping test.
Zero percent is ideal. Up to 1% may be acceptable for many uses, while sustained loss above 3% often causes noticeable problems in games and real-time calls.
Jitter is the variation between consecutive response times. Lower jitter means data arrives consistently, which matters for calls, streaming, and online games.
